As of 2002, only 49% of rural households and 72% of urban households in Nigeria had access to an improved water source. An improved water source includes a household connection, public standpipe, borehole, protected dug well, protected spring or rainwater collection (WHO 2006).
Rural Africa Water Development Project offers solutions.
RAWDP undertakes borehole drilling and geophysical surveys for communities and households.
RAWDP has built spring boxes in the past in this regard. Today, water quality from this sources is monitored in-situ in order to safeguard them.
RAWDP also monitors and protects water sources such as springs, streams and wells from pollution.
